Yesterday Twitter got some problems with injected code redirecting users to other sites and also showing pop-up windows. Most of us see Twitter (and other big sites) as trusted sites, but this shows that you need to be careful out there.
This video shows what happened if you didn’t visit yourself yesterday during the few hours the problem happened:
This type of attacks are called XSS (or in plain English Cross Site Scripting) and is done when someone can inject (in most cases javascript) code into your sites content and redirect users to other sites. Usually the attacker tries to redirect the visitors to sites with porn or in some cases sites infected by trojans that tries to infect the visitors computer.
This type of attack could happen to anyone if you use unsecure code or software on your site, so it’s important that you always upgrade your forums and blogs (for example) to the latest versions as soon as they are available. If you for example use WordPress we can recommend you to buy some security consulting from WPSecurityLock. During 30 or 60 minutes you will get professional help from the experts from WPSecurityLock to make your WordPress site more secure.
