Free Security Scan for WordPress blogs

Even if we all know pretty well what we should do to security our WordPress blogs, it’s easy to forget to setup some of the security measure or simply just set them up incorrectly. Therefore we’ve created a free security scan!

So if you have a WordPress blog you can have it scanned in our Lite Security Scan for free. This service is not a complete security scan but it should get you started at least.

Some of the things the test will check:

  • If the standard admin account is still active in your blog
  • If configuration file is secured or not
  • If you reveal the WordPress version you’re using (makes it easy for hackers to know what security vulnerabilities they should check for in your blog)
  • If your blog hosts some of the more common keywords used in hacks where links are inserted into your blog
  • If you have hidden or encrypted code in your blog theme

Since this is still in beta we appreciate your comments and also suggestions for more checks you want us to do.

When you run the test you will get a green checkbox, a yellow one or a red depending on the test results. The green checkbox indicates a good result while the yellow and red means that you have something to update in your blog. In some cases you get a suggestion on how to solve the problem, and the plan is that the test will give you directions for how to fix everything we’re checking for. But that’s in the future.

Once the test has checked your blog you get an overall test result at the bottom showing you the percentages of each type of result (i.e. green, yellow or red). You can of course re-run the test once you have corrected/fixed some of the issues to see the new result.
