Once again we’re seeing fake emails trying to steal your login information. This time it’s PayPal that’s the victim 🙁 of this scam.
The email sent out is really good looking and the links in the email looks like they’re going to take you to www.paypal.com/us/ but instead you’re redirected to a fake PayPal site. In the email there’s also a warning for fake web sites 😀
As always in this kind of emails you’re asked to verify or supply additional information because of some kind of problem. This time the scammers claim your PayPal information is out of date and needs to be updated.
If you get emails from any bank or service you’re using, don’t click on links inside the emails. Visit their site from your web browser bookmarks instead. That way you’re sure you login in at the correct web site and not a fake one.
The fake web site in this case is hosted on a completely legit web site (most likely the owner is completely unaware of the evil activities on their web site). So if you got a web site or blog on your own, make sure you upgrade the softwares you use (like phpBB and WordPress) so your site wont end up hosting scam web sites.

We’ve been setting up spam traps for years, analyzing the spam we get and trying to warn all non-geeks 😀

Hey Xavier, How’s it going? I just got one of these emails last week, and I will admit I really thought it was from PayPal as I had just done a transaction with them. I was just about to click onto what was required of me and instead I called them on the phone. Very glad I did, it was of course a scam/spam !! They had informed me that they would never send an email and then have you click and perform an action (as in going to another page, or input any info.) Your post will at least keep us on our toes. Have a great day!
