Agile Software Development

Agile software development is a group of software development methodologies and it was founded in 2001 when the Agile Manifesto was created. The manifesto caused later a movement within the software industry and functioning principles of Agile can be found in lean manufacturing and six sigma. One of the companies using agile development for their software development is Atlassian.

They do it by focusing on:

  • Effective planning when developing software people want. They are no afraid of using old fashioned index cards to do the planning 😉
  • Open communication with their customers using all types of communication channels like for example wikis
  • Feedback and two-way communications between developers and team leaders
  • Maintaining code quality by testing and scheduled code reviews
  • Testing, testing and testing to ensure code quality
