Feedburner moving to Google servers

Today when I was going to check out some Feedburner stats for our RSS feeds I got a message from Google to move my Feedburner account to my Google account. Google acquired Feedburner in 2007 and since then they’ve been working on using similar technology for Feedburner as for all other Google services and now it’s time to move.

The first thing I noticed about the move is that you have to change from feeds.feedburner.com to feeds2.feedburner.com for your feeds. Your old feed at feeds.feedburner.com will redirect to the new location.

If you use MyBrand (as we do) you don’t have to change the URL of your feeds, just update the DNS records. So our feed can still be found at feed.xaviermedia.com/xaviermedia 😀

The first new thing I noticed is the new statistical graphs. They look a lot more like Google Analytics and if you move your mouse pointer over the lines you see how many subscribers you got at that time (no more guessing 😀 ).

This is the graph for ArticleFinders.com:

New feedburner statistics graphs

Other then the new graphs it looks like the old Feedburner, so why move your account to Google? According to Google you will get better security and to get the new features they’re planning for Feedburner:

In order to provide an integrated experience and to support the new features we have planned for our feed platform, as well as to improve security, it is necessary for logins to be handled via a Google Account.

According to the migration FAQ you need to move your account before the 28th of February. If you haven’t migrated your account by then your subscribers will get a 404 Page Not Found error.

EDIT: Darn!!! I just noticed that all migrated feeds return a 404 error 🙁 I hope it’s just temporary………

My FREE Insider’s Kit will show you how to earn more money!

I got a message at Feedburner.com telling me to upgrade. Maybe they are doing users one at the time to reduce the server load…. 😕

Reload the main page a few times maybe you’ll see the message too.

Hey Andreas, Did you get notified by Feedburner? I haven’t received anything to do with this. I’ve checked my feedburner acct. and did not find any message there either. So thanks for the heads up, good to know the deadline date too.
