This week Google+ opened up for everyone (or at least almost everyone) with a Google account.
I mentioned that it’s open to almost everyone, and the people that still can’t join are the people with a Google Apps account (which means pretty much all paying corporate users of Google Apps). This is really too bad and I hope they will change this soon because Google+ is way so much better than Facebook.
The interface feels so much cleaner than on Facebook and the navigation is really easy. They also have a special mode where you can check how your profile would look like to anyone else 😉 . You can of course upload pictures, links and so much more. If you have a smart phone (Andriod for example) you can download the app and have all your photos and videos you take with the phone automatically uploaded to your photo album. Fantastic if you would lose your phone. It’s also perfect for sharing your photos, so you don’t have to sync your phone, upload and save all your photos 😉 . I think the photos are saved to a private photo album and you then have to select which photos you want to share.
I guess you’ve all heard about people that posted on Facebook how much they hate their work and/or their boss and they also had their boss as a friend on Facebook. With Google+ this isn’t as big problem as with Facebook since you put all your friends into circles. When you post something you select which one of your circles you want to post to, and if you want to write how much you dislike your boss you do it to your Friend or Family circle and not the Coworker circle 😉
Google+ allows you to do free video chats with 9 people participating in the conversation and unlimited number of listeners. This is fantastic if you want to have a conference where people will talk about whatever industry you work in and others will listen. Also fantastic for educational purposes 😉 This feature is called hangouts and I guess we will read and see much about it in the future.
If you haven’t tried it yet, do it because you will love it: Google+.
A couple of downsides are that the API isn’t that developed yet and also you can’t create pages for fanclubs, companies etc just yet but I guess that’s just a question of time.
