The fantastic people at Automattic has created yet another fantastic piece of software called Jetpack. This plugin for WordPress blogs contains several fantastic features, which are almost impossible to live without after you’ve tried this plugin 😉
As described on the Jetpack.me web site this plugin will super charge your self-hosted WordPress blog with the power of the WordPress.com cloud for free 🙂 . So you get the WordPress.com statistics on your own blog now, without any additional load to your server which is good because even if you’re on a shared hosting account you need to think of the load of the server (be nice to your machines 😉 ). I prefer the WordPress.com stats over Google Analytics which I think is a little bit confusing (my personal opinion) and from what I understand both statistics services provide information on the same thing (i.e. pages where you don’t have the code is not counted).
One of the most useful features and alos my favourite feature is the After the Deadline feature which includes spell, style and grammar checking. This is something really useful and more people should use this feature 
(you know who you are).
If you have a scientific blog or perhaps if you’re a teacher in math, then you would really love the LaTeX feature. Now it’s possible to create complex mathematical functions and equations in an pretty easy way. It’s almost so I’m thinking of starting a blog about math 😉
You also get some other features like short links using wp.me and gravatar hovercards which is an enhancement of the gravatar icons you can have in your blogs and forums.

I definitely have to give Jetpack a try 🙂 I generally prefer pre-installed wordpress on my servers, but companies that offer wordpress blog hosting are just as good. Some of these even have around the clock tech support which is pure genius and really needed helping hand.
