MyBlogLog to be discontinued

Some time ago it looked like Yahoo! was going to get rid of a few sites and MyBlogLog was one of them 🙁 , but then it sounded like they where interested in selling the site to someone. Unfortunately it looks like they haven’t found any buyer, so this week they sent out an email to everyone that MyBlogLog will be discontinued….

So this is the end:

Dear MyBlogLog Customer,

You have been identified as a customer of Yahoo! MyBlogLog. We will officially discontinue Yahoo! MyBlogLog effective May 24, 2011. Your agreement with Yahoo!, to the extent that it applies to the Yahoo! MyBlogLog, will terminate on May 24, 2011.

After May 24, 2011 your credit card will no longer be charged for premium services on MyBlogLog. We will refund you the unused portion of your subscription, if any. The refund will appear as a credit via the billing method we have on file for you. To make sure that your billing information is correct and up to date, visit https://billing.yahoo.com.

This is not the only service Yahoo said they would close/sell in December, so the question is if Delicious is the next service to be closed… Yahoo has done a few acquisitions over the years that ended in Yahoo closing the service. One of the more famous sites where Geocities that they closed in October 2009.

We at Xavier Media has used MyBlogLog for a few years to keep track of what the visitors are clicking on and also like a social hub for our visitors (we had a community for XavierMedia.com for example). Now this will end on May 24th, so we’ve already now started to remove links to and code from MyBlogLog. We will miss the service.

It looks like Yahoo is doing this to focus on Yahoo! Pulse, a service looking very similar to a combination of Twitter and Facebook. The funny thing with Yahoo! Pulse is that it’s importing things from MyBlogLog, so the question is what will happen to those imports when they close MyBlogLog?
