Search Engine Optimization by AboutUs.org

I’ve written before about pages at AboutUs.org and that it could be a good idea to update the page about your site at AboutUs.org. Now they’ve become even more useful to your site by publishing a lot of articles on Search Engine Optimization and other useful topics.

AboutUs.org has developed from “just” a wiki about sites, to a good resource for information for webmasters and web site owners. One of the new additions I like are the articles on various topics like Search Engine Optimization for your site.

In for example the article called “How To Use Twitter for SEO” you get a lot of good tips on how to use Twitter to promote your site. Since Google and the other search engines are more and more becoming social media aware a good presence in the social media world is a must to get more visitors to your site. The article is of course also giving a warning about spam accounts since that wont help you (search engines today are much smarter than you think, and Google and the other search engine got enough server capacity to analyze spam).

These tips can of course also be applied on any Status.net server, like Ident.ca or MyXavier.com, too 😉

Here are some other articles from AboutUs.org:

Some tips are the basic SEO tips you get from anywhere, but I like the AboutUs.org articles since they have a nice format and are also well-written. It’s also always nice to be reminded of all the basic stuff about SEO.

Aw, this was a very nice post. In thought I wish to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and precise effort to make an excellent article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and certainly not seem to get one thing done.

😀 Wow, Andreas. Even higher praise. I wasn’t expecting that! Thank you so much. It makes us feel really good that you understand what we are doing – validation that our site is truly helpful to people.

Hi, Andreas,

Thanks for this lovely write-up 😀 of AboutUs.org. I’m delighted that you, a professional web person, find our articles useful and accurate.

You mention that our articles are about the basics. That’s quite deliberate. Many of the people using AboutUs.org are small business owners who are just starting to learn about – and use – Web marketing techniques, including social media. We’ve learned from their emails and calls that most SEO resources on the Web are perplexing for them. That’s partly because of the jargon that SEOs use, and it’s partly because the basic concepts of SEO and Web marketing aren’t yet fully internalized.

We see our mission as helping entrepreneurs within small enterprises acquire the concepts, terminology and tactics they need to become more visible on the Web. We’re lucky to have constant, active feedback from these folks – it’s really our customers who tell us what they need, and what to develop next.

Thanks again for your lovely post, and for your past posts about AboutUs.org. I know you’ve been following our site and company for a long time, and that you’ve watched the changes take place.

Look for Mark to contact you soon!

Best regards,
Aliza Earnshaw

Hi,

Thanks for the comment.

I didn’t mean that your articles are only the basics, what I tried to write was that the basic things you find everywhere on the Internet is now in one place nicely packaged into good articles with some more advanced things too. There’s no need for multiple sources any more. I’ll see if I re-write that piece.

Keep up the good work!
