Can you guess which TLD (top level domain) is the biggest? Well the answer is .com, but what if we exclude .com? Can’t guess….well the answer is actually .org!
If you count the number of hosted pages on some of the more popular gTLDs (Generic Top Level Domains) then we’ll see that .org is the most popular followed by .net, .edu and .gov.
Now you may asking youself why it’s like this. The answer is actually that .org is one of the older gTLD (togheter with .com and .net) and have therefore been around for quite some time. Unlike .gov and .edu anyone can register a .org while only American Goverments can get a .gov and Universities can register .edu domains.
Another helping thing is that the biggest web sites today (if you count number of pages) are actually using .org as their main domain. Just check out wikipedia.org, aboutus.org or maybe even dmoz.org and you’ll see that they all got millions of pages. So why don’t you get your own .org domain and setup a non-profit directory you too?
