I’ve always like the nature and the work done by organizations like WWF and therefore I invested a big part of my savings in a mutual fund donating 2% each year to WWF. All the companies the fund invest in must follow the WWF guidelines. At the moment it’s not looking like a good investment to me since the fund has decreased by about 40% in value in just one year 🙁 , but at least WWF got a few donations.
About a year ago I invested in a company (Eolus Wind) setting up wind power plants in Scandinavia. They also run a few of these power plants themselves, but their main idea is to sell the plants once setup to companies and private persons interested in producing environmental friendly electricity. During 2009 they plan to setup 48 wind power plants in Sweden 😀 .
My latest investment was just a month ago when I purchased a part of O2 another Swedish company producing electricity from wind power. This investment makes it also possible for me and Xavier Media to buy electricity produced by wind so the most of the electricity we use will be “green electricity” 😀 . So I’m planning to not use any more electricity produced by coal or oil power plants 😀 . BTW this post is written on my laptop using exactly just wind produced electricity.
Since the environment and our planets future is important for me and the most investments I do are in some way done to make our planet better I’ve decided to let Xavier Media contribute some too. Therefore I’ve invested a small part of the Xavier Media money in two mutual funds donating 1-2% of the fund value each year to WWF. The first fund is SEB Baltic Sea fund donating 1% of the fund value to WWF’s Baltic Sea project, the other fund is Skandia WWF fund donating 2% of the fund value to WWF. To make it possible for all of you to follow the development of these two investments I’ve setup a blog at XavierMedia.org where I will post every now and them about the fund development (finally this domain is used for something useful 🙂 ). At XavierMedia.org you can also read more about the two funds we’ve invested in so far.
Why don’t any other blogger like John Chow, Shoemoney, JohnCow.com, Tyler Cruz etc do something like this? Most of them post profit statements each month showing the world how much money they’ve earned, but why not also say “1% of this profit was donated to WWF” or “I just purchased my own wind power plant to compensate for my CO2 usage”. The world really need something like that right now when the world economy is looking like it does. Companies and organizations making our planet a better place to live on really need investors right now when Wall Street and other finance centras around the world is just worrying about their bonuses.
Do you make your investments in accordance with WWF’s guidelines?
